What is the difference between k1500 and k2500

I realize that after the frames are different and I have a feeling that you guys are commenting on that more than anything. It weighs lbs. Thats all my goal is. I dont think just adding helper springs will do the rear diff any good and thats a concern of mine. The truck was rated GVW and listed as a K It had six lug wheels and was a half ton truck except for the springs as I understand it.

The frame may be heavier than the k but it was not deeper. Given that the curb weight of these trucks is lbs, GM clearly intended the six-lug wheel set-up to withstand the weight. If you take care of the axle and don't beat on the truck you will likely be okay. My biggest worry would be your breaks and whether you can still stop in a safe distance and not fry your rotors going down a hill. Also, you will need the HD radiator and other HD goodies so that everything under the hood stays together.

Any idea the rear diff in your old company truck? Im betting it wasnt a 10 bolt like my has? If it was, maybe I could get away with just adding a leaf spring or 2. Brakes have always been fine with the rig as has cooling, but def is a concern and maintence item. I know the current models has vastly different frames but will agree with you there are not significant differences in frames between the s and s in the 90s.

Making your truck a light duty is a viable option. This would allow you to run 6 lug wheels all the way around. Throw a shift kit in your tranny or have it rebuilt heavy duty, install an external tranny cooler if not already equiped , external engine oil cooler, heavy duty radiator, and watch your brakes go aftermarket upgrade if you need to. Guys over there are much more accustomed to modifying their rigs. I had two 's A '94 and a '97 Ext. It also included an additional leaf in the spring pack and larger U-joints. By Elizabeth Henson Started 1 hour ago. By Hwoody Started 17 hours ago. By Jamie86 Started 19 hours ago.

They also came out with an oversized radiator and HD trans cooler with HD oil cooler and most had a standard 3. The axle under your father's is a 14bolt semi-floating 9.

You would need to get yourself one of these 14b SF 6 lug axles in order to increase payload. Get and add-a-leaf or 2 for the rear springs and your truck should be up to the same task as your father's. The difference between 's with 6 lug and 8 lug axles is that the light duty has the 6lug 9.

The regular has the 8 lug 9. The HD comes with a K PM - Post In response to cedjunior I have a 90 x-cab shortbed with z package.. It has the big brake package and came factory with a 9. Manual transmission? All the Z71's I've seen with the heavy duty running gear also had the NV The ONLY difference is the rear axle has a You could only get the or 6. Both had the 4l I have two 's that are 6 bolt. I have a 8 bolt and a 8 bolt which also seem to be the same trucks, though the is a diesel.

I also dont know if its just in my head or not but both the 8 bolt trucks seem to push snow better, however I usually have these two loaded down more RepoMan PlowSite Fanatic. Location Maine. Won't find a You must log in or register to reply here.
